Mindfulness-Based Supervision and Mentoring: Using an Embodied Dialogue to Support Learning and Reflection, by Alison Evans and Pamela Duckerin

  • The launch of Mindfulness-Based Supervision and Mentoring: Using an Embodied Dialogue to Support Learning and Reflection, by Alison Evans and Pamela Duckerin, took place on Tuesday, 22 July 2025.

This book describes a unique mindfulness-based approach to supervision that is both framework and practice-driven. Alison and Pamela will share stories and reflections around the content and process of writing. The authors share a flavour of this in a recent blog post.

The mindfulness-based supervision (MBS) framework featured throughout the book is described using the metaphor of the ‘warp’ and ‘weft’ from weaving. This metaphor distinguishes between the consistent threads of the MBS framework —the warp —and the threads that can be adjusted as needed —the weft.

The warp consists of three key threads: the mindful container, the mutual relational inquiry, and the use of pauses and space. These are the vertical threads that ensure supervision is steeped in a mindfulness-based approach. The authors will discuss how this approach was reflected in their collaborative writing venture as co-authors and how it shaped the content.

The weft is the horizontal threads that are woven through the warp and can have different colours and textures depending on what is needed. The weft consists of guiding principles that support safety and integrity, as well as the various topics explored in supervision.  The flexibility and adjustability of the weft threads means that the MBS approach can be applied in a range of ways, within different contexts and settings, to supervisees with various developmental needs and using a variety of teaching approaches, as well as mindfulness-based practitioners applying this approach in other areas of their work, including supervision in areas such as psychotherapy and education. The authors will discuss the relevance of the weft threads to the mindfulness field right now. This will include their reflections on their inclusion of interviews with others in the field.

  • Please Donate

Your donation helps us expand access and impact through two bursary funds (for supervision, training, and retreats) and supports the work we do as a non-profit organisation. We aim to increase inclusion and diversity, which is at the heart of our vision.

We recognise that the mindfulness world is not truly representative and diverse. We are committed, however, to being part of the solution to this problem by ensuring that our services are as accessible and inclusive as possible, and that the impact of those using our services can reach wider communities. By offering bursaries, we aim to support individuals from diverse socio-economic backgrounds in training to become mindfulness-based teachers, receiving supervision, and attending mindfulness retreats. Widening access in this way is vital to the relevance and integrity of our field.

The Cindy Cooper Bursary Fund for Supervision

This fund will help mindfulness-based teachers access supervision, which is required to meet the good practice guidelines for teachers who offer mindfulness courses. Your donation will support teachers financially at the start of their teaching, or at critical points in their development, or to support equality, diversion and inclusion.

    The Events Bursary Fund

We now offer bursary-assisted places across our full programme of events. This bursary fund is used to support MBA trainees and teachers at key stages in their development to attend training, retreats and compassion events. This fund will help those training to become mindfulness-based teachers. It is aimed at those who would otherwise not be able to train as mindfulness-based teachers, and particularly to support equality, diversity and inclusion. Retreats are an essential requirement for teachers of mindfulness-based approaches (MBAs) to meet good practice guidelines.
